Movement + Writing

What does it mean to use movement as a writing practice and writing as a movement practice? We will explore methods of both physical and text-based improvisation as tools for composition. We'll dance, we'll write, and we'll share ideas that weave in between art forms. Bring something to write with and if available to you, a space to move.

About Maxine: 

Maxine Flasher-Düzgüneş is a hybrid artist from Northern California, once based in New York, and now based in London. She is a writer for Dance Art Journal, a current guest artist for Event/Horizons 2021, and a future Djerassi Resident Artist. Her dance films have been screened worldwide with kNOwBOX Dance Film Festival, Sans Souci Festival of Dance Cinema, FilmFest by Rogue Dancer, SzólóDuó International Dance Festival, and room83spring. Her ongoing project, strikethrough-score.org, is a digital platform where poets can generate choreographic scores for dancers — film, text, and performance installations of strikethrough have been exhibited at NYU Tisch, the Museum of Wild and Newfangled Art, SAFEhouse Arts, Mark Foehringer Dance Project | SF, Interdisciplinary Arts Collective, Noori/TWIG Media Lab, Poethesis Mag, Samfiftyfour Literary, and Inbtwn. Mag. Maxine graduated Magna Cum Laude from NYU Tisch with a B.F.A. in Dance and a Minor in English.
